Intro
Yay, it’s finally here and i can get to playing the new campaign. For my blind play, I decided to do a write-up of the games as i go along. Kind of like the gameplay videos that you can find on YouTube… but in written form. We’ll see how much sense that makes in practice.
I want to do this because i feel like it might be an interesting resource to check back on. Since i am playing with decks that are only built from a card pool of the Core Set and Drowned City, this is meant to showcase how an experience could look like for a new player that goes into this campaign as their first thing after the Core. Now obviously, i do have a level of play experience that doesn’t *quite* make this representative of a newbie’s first real campaign, but it’s the closest i can get.
Hopefully this campaigns doesn’t end in a crash and burn … but even if it does, we can have a discussion about whether it’s due to the limited card pool or if i would have fared similarly if i had tapped into my full card pool for the decks.
And if everything goes well, that will also be great because it showcases that new players don’t need to buy into 1500€ worth of legacy products before they are allowed to play the new things. Either way, hopefully we are learning something.
The investigators
I will be using the investigator decks i detailed a few weeks ago:
Lucius: https://derbk.com/ancientevils/building-on-a-limited-card-pool-the-drowned-city-core-pt-1/
Michael: https://derbk.com/ancientevils/building-on-a-limited-card-pool-the-drowned-city-core-pt-2/
I am likely going to stick to the upgrade plans i outlined in those articles as well.
The Campaign
I’ll be playing Standard, two-handed solo. I reserve the option to retroactively go down to Easy if i am struggling too hard, but hopefully it won’t come to that. Can’t tell you all that much more than that, i am going into the campaign fairly blind, so i don’t really know too much about what’s coming up. I know we are going to pick Tasks fairly early and i already had a look at those as well, but other than that i avoided as much as i could.
Everything i write will be done immediately after i play a turn. Basically, i will play a turn, then summarize it for you in the article. Then play another turn until done and then submit the whole thing to the website. This will include both my impressions of the player decks and how they fare and details and first impressions of the campaign and encounter cards. So be aware that there will be spoilers aplenty going forward, basically just like you’d watch a campaign playthrough on Youtube.

I love the game play descriptions in written form. Super interesting and much better in my opinion than videos of play. I certainly hope you do this again in the future. Really enjoyable, entertaining and educational.
Thanks, glad to hear it. I can’t see myself doing something like this on a regular base, it’s too much effort. But it’s definitely something i will consider again for the next campaign blind play.
